Winter Hair Trends 2014
Whether it’s the changing of the seasons or the welcoming of the New Year, the entrance of the winter season seems to bring us girls that urge to refresh our external appearance.
Fashion trends may come and go, but your hair is a permanent fixture that has the ability to change up your entire style perspective. A new hair cut, style, or color can be a therapeutic endeavor, symbolic of a fresh start, and with the potential to make you feel like an entirely new person.
Although a drastic change to your locks can be a bit intimidating, there is no reason not to finally take a step towards that new aesthetic that you’ve been internally lusting after.
This is the time in our lives to experiment with our personal taste and preferences and for that reason I advocate stepping out of your comfort zone to try something new.
Know you want a change but aren’t exactly sure which direction to go in? Check out one of these fabulous winter 2014 hair trends for a little bit of inspiration for your tresses.
Amethyst Hair
Subtle metallic hair colors are more than trending this season, and although they can seem a bit whimsical, stars like Kelly Osbourne and Nicole Richie have shown us that they can be applied in a fashionable and realistic way with their soft amethyst locks.
This winter’s amethyst shade is a transparent take on pastel purple, embracing lilac hues and silvery undertones. Try it with a long layered cut or an edgy pixie do for an even more bold approach.
Rose Gold Hair Color
This hair color trend will surely have onlookers blushing with admiration.
This feminine hue takes red and blonde hair to an entirely new level. Perfect for all skin tones, the rose gold color adds warmth around the face and can make even the most extreme case of winter pale glow with a pink halo.
Not entirely ready for pink locks? Take a more natural approach with the copper geared version of the metallic hair color by blending thick gold and copper highlights.
Layered Bangs
Get the iconic look of full and voluminous bangs by having your stylist angle the scissors in an arc with a light razor-job at the tips. These bangs look fantastic grown out and make for great transitioning bangs.
Because this style of bang isn’t a sharp line, the bangs can grow out slightly without looking uneven or messy. You can style these in various ways. For a full, nighttime look, opt for a large hot-roller. For casual day-to-day looks, just blow-dry with a round brush.
Asymmetrical Bob
Shorter haircuts have been dominating the runway this season and not to mention are super easy to maintain.
An asymmetrical bob with long side-swept bangs lengthens the face and looks edgy without going overboard. The structured shape of the asymmetrical bob with the piecey-ness of the chopped layers makes for a modern yet effortlessly cool hair do.
Long Layered Chestnut
Frosted chestnut is a great option for brunettes who want a shiny metallic finish without the heavy maintenance.
This frosty gold finish looks great with wavy long locks and frontal face framing layers. Have your hairdresser utilize the baylayage technique to seamlessly mesh a chestnut brown base with taupe highlights for an effortless fall hair color that brings life to fairer skin tones or to highlight darker shades.
Platinum Ice Crop
This icy shade of platinum blonde has to be winter’s most coveted color. The platinum ice blonde is this season’s white-hot hair color trend that simply can’t be ignored.
Step it up a notch by using this snowy tone throughout a thick and curly short crop or choppy pixie cut. Add an iridescent silver tint for more dimension or add some color with delicate hints of pastel blues or spearmint greens.
Wheat Blonde Blunt Bob
It’s brighter and more buttery than dirty blonde with hints of light brown color peeking out at the roots or underneath. Try this color with a straight blunt shoulder length bob that is slightly angled toward the front, which lengthens the neck and draws attention to the collarbone.
Black Currant Hair
A stylish and bold alternative to the past season’s velvety red color trend is the plum-ish shade of black currant.
This purple-black color complements dark hair colors and lighter skin while adding a warm violet tinge. Adding this plum hue to a soft sombre is the optimal way to blend imperial purple with a natural brown hair color.
Auburn Harvest
The red-orange undertones of the auburn harvest shade make it an ideal match for warm skin tones, either dark or fair.
The copper tint of this color highlights your skin’s naturally golden undertones and provides the face with a soft and warming glow.
